The Library is the best deal going for children in the summer.
Reading Club,Tech Zoo, Story Tent, Wacky Wednesdays, LEGO and Minecraft days,Ukelele Workshops...whew! And all free.
Monday nights will feature Tech Zoos with a different STEAM activity highlighted each week: from designing a marble run out of recycled materials to playing with mini robots. Tuesday mornings, younger children and their caregivers can visit the Story Tent for outside stories and crafts that will take you across Canada. Wednesday afternoons will feature Wacky Wednesday programs for children in grades 1-5. Registration for these popular craft and activity programs is done in Youth Services. Children can sign up for one of 4 Minecraft Jr. sessions taking place on alternate Thursdays. Every other Friday come out to build, create and play with LEGO. The Library will also be hosting two children's Ukulele Workshops. Details for all of these programs can be found on the Library's website.
Beat the summer lag at the Library by joining the TD Summer Reading Club. This is a fun way to encourage children to keep reading throughout the summer. Register anytime throughout the summer, set a personal reading goal and keep track of the books you read in the official TD Summer Reading Club notebook. Children also receive stickers, an online access code to the TD Summer Reading Club website and can make their very own summer reading button.
For those who are looking for a little bit of extra help with their reading over the summer, there's the Library's Reading Buddies program. This program partners elementary school children with high school or adult volunteers for weekly hour-long reading sessions. There's still time to register as either a volunteer or buddy. Applications are available at the Library or can be downloaded from the website.
