Halloween trick or treating is an exciting time for children. But, too many treats can affect your child's teeth. The Grey Bruce Health Unit wants to make sure that Halloween treats won't leave your child with a jack-o-lantern smile.
Fun alternatives to candy
If you are concerned about the amount of candy that your child will receive, try rationing it over a few weeks. Another choice would be to let your child trade in Halloween candy for a video game, book, toy or trip to the movies. By reducing the amount of candy your child eats and by teaching your child that moderation is important, you won't have to worry about tooth decay and Halloween will still be fun.

ORILLIA – Five people who were not wearing their seat belts died on Ontario roads during the final week of the OPP Fall Seatbelt Campaign, much to the dismay of officers who were working hard to reduce these preventable losses. The rash of fatal collisions came at a time when the OPP had their sights set on seatbelt-related deaths reaching a record ten-year low.
The five deaths occurred within one week of the campaign (September 24-October 10, 2014) in four separate collisions (in OPP jurisdiction). Four of the five victims were ejected from the vehicle and in one of the incidents, neither the driver nor the passenger were buckled in, resulting in both people dying. In one of the collisions, the victim was not ejected from the vehicle but died from their injuries – an important reminder that being ejected is not the only reason people die when not wearing a seat belt during a collision.
GEORGIAN BLUFFS – On Thursday, October 23, 2014 at approximate 5:27 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a house fire on 30th Street West, north of Park Street, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
One person has been confirmed dead. A second victim, a 23 year old male, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He has since been released from hospital. There were no other people inside the residence at the time of the fire.
A post mortem is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2014 in London, Ontario.
OWEN SOUND – The City of Owen Sound pays respect to Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.
All City flags have been lowered to half mast in honour of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, 24, a reservist with Argylls of Canada - 91st Canadian Highlanders in Hamilton, Ont. who was killed while standing guard at the National War Memorial on Parliament Hill on Wednesday, October 23, 2014 and Patrice Vincent, a 53-year-old warrant officer who was deliberately mowed down outside a federal government office in Quebec City on Monday, October 20, 2014.
