New this year, the event welcomes individual riders, as well as teams. Participants will participate in a 30 minute, instructor-led cycle class between 8:00 and 11:00am. The YMCA has also put forward a challenge for a team to ride for the whole event this year!

assault-regA male, who was not accepting of his partner's wishes to slow down their new relationship, now faces several criminal charges.

Thursday afternoon, the 27-year-old female victim was at her residence in Owen Sound and asked the accused for time to re-think their relationship, which was less than a month old. The 26-year-old Owen Sound male became angry and pushed the victim onto the bed, grabbed her by her hair and struck her across the face. He then took a knife and held it to his own throat, threatening to commit suicide.

The victim was very lucky to have only sustained less serious injuries to her lip and cheek area that did not require medical attention. She was able to calm the male down and drove him to a local coffee shop, then came to the Owen Sound Police station to report the assault. Officers attended several locations within the city in an attempt to locate the male. When he was not located, the victim was taken to a place of safety.

A review of the video security system revealed that a customer had pulled into the lot and saw the deposit bag. The man collected the bag, placed it in his own vehicle and left. After an analysis of the video a suspect was identified by the Community Oriented Response Unit (CORE) and the man was arrested by uniform members on the night of October 15th. The man was investigated by the Criminal Investigation Branch and subsequently charged with Theft under $5000 and Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000. The 40 year old Owen Sound man was released to attend court on November 13th. Two thirds of the money from the deposit bag was recovered to be returned to the business owner.
