OS-Police-Targs-fullArrests made following thefts from motor vehicles.

On Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017, some Owen Sound residents woke to discover that their vehicles had been unlawfully entered over night. The vehicle entries occurred on 5 occasions, predominantly in the 500 & 600 blocks of 4th Avenue East and the 900 – 1800 blocks of 4th Avenue West, Owen Sound. Some of the items stolen included small amounts of change, a GPS and personal identification.

Later, one of the victims of lost ID noticed that his cell phone was receiving alerts of bank transactions involving his stolen bank card. He quickly reported the transactions, which were occurring at various locations in Owen Sound over a short period of time, to police. The attending officer obtained security footage and a female suspect was identified.

On August 24th the investigating officer was conducting foot patrol in downtown Owen Sound and located the 22-year old female suspect. She was subsequently arrested and returned to Owen Sound Police Service. An Owen Sound resident, she is required to attend Ontario Court of Justice on September 21st and is charged with:

· Possession of stolen property

· Unauthorized use of a credit card (2 counts)

Continuing the investigation, police located a male suspect in the 200 block of 8th Street East. He was arrested and returned to Owen Sound Police Service, awaiting a remand hearing to occur on Friday, August 25th. This 26-year old male, hailing from London, Ontario, is charged with:

· Theft under $5000 (5 counts)

· Theft of credit card

· Possession of stolen property (4 counts)

· Fail to comply with probation

· Fail to comply with recognizance of bail

Police recovered some of the stolen property, including the GPS and the majority of stolen identification.

Once again, police remind people NOT to leave personal securities and items of a valuable nature in the vehicles; and to lock the vehicles.
