The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police charged an individual following a traffic stop.

On Saturday, July 22, at approximately 1:56 p.m., an officer with the Grey Bruce OPP stopped a passenger vehicle on Highway 6 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

The officer received a driver's licence status notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system that the driver's licence was suspended.

When speaking to the driver, the officer determined that the driver was displaying signs of impairment.

The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and transported to the Grey Bruce OPP Detachment for further testing.

After determining the driver was not impaired by alcohol, he was tested by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The driver complied with the tests, and he was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old of Georgian Bluffs was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Possession of a Scheduled I Substance
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance
  • Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on September 7, 2023.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
