Young female assaulted on the street after bar close.

At approximately 02:30 hrs on Sunday morning officers patrolling in the city's downtown core responded to a disturbance in the 800 block of 2nd Avenue East. Officers immediately arrived on scene to find approximately 15 – 20 individuals many of whom were heavily under the influence of alcohol and in a very agitated state. A 22 year old male who had retreated to a nearby vehicle was identified by witnesses as the individual who had assaulted a young female on the street. The man was taken into custody without incident. The young female was found lying on the sidewalk with injury to her face. EMS attended and transported the young lady to hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later released.

It appears that the altercation had previously started at a downtown bar between the assailant and a friend of the victims.

The 22 year old Owen Sound resident formerly from Alberta will appear in court on May 17th, 2018 on the charge of assault causing bodily harm.
