policecarAn Owen Sound man faces charges after an impaired driving investigation overnight.

Members of the Owen Sound Police were conducting a R.I.D.E check point on 10th street west just after midnight when a vehicle caught their attention. The vehicle which had initially been travelling east bound on 10th Street West made a sudden turn into a plaza in what looked like an attempt to evade the spot-check.

Officers stopped the vehicle as it travelled eastbound in the lot. The male driver was arrested after failing a roadside screening device. He was subsequently transported to the station where a Qualified Breath Technician conducted breath tests, the results of which were over the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence is suspended for 90 days.

Police remind motorists that R.I.D.E. lanes are conducted throughout the year not just during the holiday seasons.
