An investigation into a fatal residential house fire that occurred on March 21, 2020 has been conducted by the Office of the Fire Marshall and the Criminal Investigations Branch of the Owen Sound Police Service. The lone occupant of the residence, Deborah Hood, 63 years of Owen Sound, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation has determined that the cause of the fire is not suspicious in nature and as such the police investigation has been concluded.
On Saturday March 21, 2020 shortly after 7:30 pm, Owen Sound Police, Fire and EMS responded to the report of a residential fire on the east side of the City. Police arriving on scene were advised by a neighbour that the homeowner may still be inside the house. Police entered the residence, however were forced back by heavy smoke.
Owen Sound Fire crews arrived on scene and were able to contain the fire. A search of the residence was conducted by members of the fire department and an unconscious female party was discovered inside the home. Grey County EMS performed CPR however were unable to resuscitate the female.
