The Owen Sound Attack are set to kick off 2015 with a bang, playing three games in just three days beginning January 1.
Owen Sound will play the Kitchener Rangers for the 7th time this year when the teams meet for a New Years Day matinee game at the Bayshore. The Attack boast a 4-0-0-2 record against their divisional rival this year, but the series has been a close one as three of the six games have needed a shootout to decide the winner.
Waterloo native and Owen Sound leading scorer Kyle Platzer has largely been an X-factor in the six meetings, picking up four goals and six assists against the team he grew up cheering for.
OWEN SOUND - The city has arranged for free off-site parking and shuttle buses to accommodate Attack fans arriving for the 7:30 pm game on Saturday January 3. This is due to the parking spaces displaced by the Rogers Hometown Hockey event at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre this weekend.
The two off-site parking locations are the National Grocers/former LCBO lot on 2nd Avenue East at 11th Street East, and the Health Unit lot on 17th Street East. Buses will run continuously from these locations to the Bayshore starting at 6 pm on Saturday. Buses will return Attack fans to the parking lots beginning immediately following the game until all passengers have departed.
The Scenic City is kicking off 2015 in a big way as the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour presented by Scotiabank and Dodge rolls into Owen Sound on January 3 & 4. The ultimate hockey festival will feature appearances by current Maple Leafs defencemen Morgan Reilly and Jake Gardiner, as well as NHL alumni Wayne Primeau and Darcy Tucker, alongside Canadian icon Ron MacLean.
The Owen Sound Attack has named veteran defenseman Chris Bigras the Becker Shoes Player of the Week for the week ending December 21st, 2014.
Bigras' biggest night came last Wednesday when he notched a career best five points against the Plymouth Whalers. The Elmvale native tallied two goals and three assists, setting the record for most points by a defenseman in one game in a 6-3 win over Plymouth.
Canadian Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Owen Sound Attack Alumni Milan Doczy (doh-chee) is fighting a battle that is much bigger than any fought on the ice. Milan was recently diagnosed with a form of Melanoma (skin cancer) which spread to his nodes. While an MRI has confirmed that the Cancer has not spread any further, Milan still requires very intense treatment to help combat this disease.
The Owen Sound Attack have developed the "Do it for Doczy" Campaign. The money raised will go directly to Milan to help cover the cost of his treatments and his living/travel expenses during this difficult time.
