Just before I switched off the radio to get back to work, a country singer crooned, "If you don't know where you're goin', you might end up somewhere else." This line resonated with a conversation about "life's mission" that I was part of on Saturday.
Taking an afternoon drive to see the changing leaves, we can make random turns as long as we keep a sense of how to get home. When, on the other hand, the road trip has a mission, when we are headed for a particular place, random turns will take us on detours. We have to keep the goal in mind.
If, however, we only think about the destination, we'll miss...
Do you have or know a child who will be starting Kindergarten in 2016?
Let's Learn Kindergarten Registration in Bruce-Grey begins next week for children who will start school in September 2016. Families of children born in 2012 (for Junior Kindergarten) and children born in 2011 (for Senior Kindergarten) are encouraged to register now.
Early registration gives you time to learn what you can do to help your child get ready for school. At Let's Learn, you and your child will meet school staff and learn about community resources in your area. Service providers will be on site to answer questions about your child's growth and development.
Fifty schools in Grey and Bruce Counties will hold the registrations at 46 school sites. Here are next week's dates:

The Owen Sound Field Naturalists Club still has room for fifteen more Young Naturalists in its organization on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Grey Sauble Conservation Authority collaborates with the Owen Sound Field Naturalists (OSFN) to coordinate the Young Naturalists' Club for boys and girls ages 7 to 12 years old (5 to 6 year-olds are welcome accompanied with a parent).
The Young Naturalists Club has lots of fun outside - snowshoeing, quinzee building, crafts, getting to know birds, butterflies and other insects, reptiles and amphibians, marsh exploring, hiking and lots more. The program begins this Sunday afternoon, September 27 and runs until June (no meeting in December). Parents or guardians are welcome to stay and participate or volunteer if they wish.
If interested in registering a youngster, please use this link, and/or email Krista McKee as soon as possible at [email protected]
On Wednesday, September 30th, 92.3 The Dock radio station's parking lot
(9th Ave. East and 8th St. E) will be the host site for our annual Pigs of Hope fundraiser.
They're not live pigs but cute little pink piggy banks being used to raise money for the local Wheels of Hope Transportation program that provides rides to cancer patients for treatment andrelated appointments. Starting at 7am and running until 1pm society volunteers, volunteer driversand staff will be on site adopting out pink piggy banks here in Owen Sound.
The piggy banks can be adopted by a school, an organization a business, a group of co-workers or a family. Each bank comes with adoption papers and a fundraising goal. The idea is to drop your spare change in the pig during the month of October or ask family, friends, co-workers or clients to help you reach your goal. Each piggy bank represents a return trip cost for a client to travel. There are several trips to choose from when adopting your piggy bank.
In 2014 The Wheels of Hope program had...
