brentpig-featureOn Wednesday, September 30th,  92.3 The Dock radio station's parking lot

(9th Ave. East and 8th St. E) will be the host site for our annual Pigs of Hope fundraiser.

They're not live pigs but cute little pink piggy banks being used to raise money for the local Wheels of Hope Transportation program that provides rides to cancer patients for treatment andrelated appointments. Starting at 7am and running until 1pm society volunteers, volunteer driversand staff will be on site adopting out pink piggy banks here in Owen Sound.

The piggy banks can be adopted by a school, an organization a business, a group of co-workers or a family. Each bank comes with adoption papers and a fundraising goal. The idea is to drop your spare change in the pig during the month of October or ask family, friends, co-workers or clients to help you reach your goal. Each piggy bank represents a return trip cost for a client to travel. There are several trips to choose from when adopting your piggy bank.

In 2014 The Wheels of Hope program had...

word-on-street-poster-reg"The wheels on the bus..." will go round all the way to Toronto this Sunday, September 27.  Have a Giles Blunt, Otherworld, or Kenneth Opel fan in your house? Barbara Reid, Margaret Atwood, Kevin Page?   Mystery, history, spoken word, biography, novels or psychology - if it's written or spoken - it wll be at The Word on the Street.
The Friends of the Library invite you to join a bus load of happy readers on their trip to Canada's national festival of books and magazines at Harbourfront in Toronto.  Spend the day at authors' readings, discussions and browsing the best selection of books anywhere, or just enjoy an afternoon in Toronto with friends without driving or parking woes.  Bring the children or grandchildren!
For $45, half-price for children and students, less than the cost of a one-way ticket to the airport, you can have a relaxing round trip on a comfortable air-conditioned coach (with washrooms!) and free admission to The Word on the Street.

As long as you are at the Library at 8:30 Sunday morning to catch the bus and at the pick-up spot at Harbourfront at 6:00 to meet the return bus, it's none of our business how you enjoy the day.  And you will be supporting our local treasure, the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library.
Tickets are available at the Library, or by email [email protected] or by calling Anne at 519-371-3933 or take your chances on a Sunday morning seat.

eclipse-2By Joan Beecroft
Sunday September 27 will be an auspicious day...er, night. The lunar eclipse begins here at 8:11 pm and peaks (the moon will be totally obscured) at 10:47 pm. Come join your Owen Sound neighbours from 8:00 on in Owen Heights Park to celebrate.

If that's a bit late for some of your kids, you can make this model to demonstrate why it happens.

dockmud-featureThe former ski hill at Talisman Mountain Springs Inn might be a little less muddy today, the scrapes and bruises endured by participants might be healing, but the 'high' experienced by Mudmoiselle participants and organizers still brings a smile to faces as the event is deemed a success for the Bluewater Canadian Cancer Society Community Office in Owen Sound.

On Saturday, September 12th, 347 participants took on a challenging-yet-workable obstacle course winding up, down and through the former ski resort hill in Kimberley to battle mud, heights, fire and more, all in the name of fighting back against cancer. Money raised through Mudmoiselle funds...
