teens-featureThe Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library has a great line-up of programs for students in grades 7-12 starting in October.

Get involved and have your say by joining the Library's Teen Advisory Group (TAG). Check out the first meeting of the new school year on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 pm. TAG members help plan programs, give feedback on the Library's teen collections and contribute ideas on how to better serve youth,  in partnership with the TOM Thompson Art Gallery.

olderhands-featureThe Grey Bruce Geriatric Education Cooperative (GEC) is offering a full-day workshop on end-of-life care for health care providers in retirement homes, long term care and other facilities. Family members of persons caring for loved one who want to learn more about end-of-life care would also find this workshop of interest.
The workshop, Palliative Care: Improving The Quality of Living and Dying, will be offered on Tuesday Oct 6th at Stone Tree in Owen Sound.

"This workshop, and others offered by the Education Cooperative, qualify for continuing education credits," said Deborah Barker, Executive Director of the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce.

ossia.laugh-featureEveryone Can Sing! is a new daytime choir starting Oct. 6 in the Woodford Community Hall on Tuesday afternoons with Louise Jarvis, director of Owen Sound's community choir, OSSIA. A twenty minute drive from either Thornbury/Meaford or Owen Sound will make this choir accessible to a large area. Everyone is welcome. The only essential is a desire to sing. The music, both heartfelt and fun, is accessible to different skill levels, utilizing short songs with built-in harmonies. Some will make you laugh, some will touch your centre, some will make you think. This is a community choir that helps create community. Meanwhile, OSSIA begins its 6th year starting

Womens-inTuition-featGiselle Bodkin, a volunteer member on Georgian College's Advancement Committee, wants to help female students realize their academic goals and career aspirations.

Inspired by a Women Moving Women event she attended, Bodkin is spearheading WOMEN's inTUITION, a fundraising campaign to recruit women to donate $50 a month for five years ($3,000 total) to a scholarship fund for women studying at Georgian.

The fund will complement more than 850 other awards and scholarships available to Georgian students.
Bodkin, a partner at BDO Canada, thinks of her late sister-in-law Leanne Kavanagh when she thinks of the female students this fund will help.

That's what past participants have said about the Business Enterprise Centre's annual Bridges to Better Business event. What more could a local business person want?  The 12th of these signature events will be Wednesday, October 7th, from 11to 4:30 at the Bayshore Community Centre.
This year the featured speaker will be Sandra Kahale, a communication expert, writer and consultant who "helps business owners build powerful, profitable relationships - online and off".
