Speaking at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting this week, MP Larry Miller fielded questions from attendees about the fate of Owen Sound Harbour. Miller said he has "staked his reputation" on the harbour's being dredged, and that he expects the federal government to cover the cost.

"Hats off to the United Way for growing this program" Safe n' Sound staff Connie McKay declared.

"When Safe n' Sound announced their Street Store and that they were collecting outerwear we decided that two programs were not needed, and we reached out to Safe n' Sound to see if they were interested in taking over our outreach role in the local coat drive" explained United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn.

OS-Police-Targs-regAn 88 year-old Kemble area man was injured in a collision Thursday morning.

Around 8:30 AM the man was driving his Hyundai Elantra southbound in the 1100 block of 1st Avenue West. The Hyundai crashed into the rear of a Jeep Patriot that was stopped due to heavy traffic. The force of the impact sent the Jeep into the rear of a Honda Pilot.

The driver of the Jeep, a 39 year old Owen Sound woman, received minor injuries that did not require emergency treatment. The driver of the Honda, a 42 year-old Owen Sound woman, was not injured.

OS-Policesept-regSometime between 8:45 AM and 4:10 PM a pick-up truck was stolen from the north parking lot of the Family Health Team located at 1415-1st Avenue West.

The truck is a black 2006 GMC Sierra extended cab pickup truck. It has Ontario Licence Plate 9809FM. The vehicle has several extra identifying features including tinted windows, orange cab lights along the top of the cab, a black bug deflector with silver lettering that says "Tucker Farms", and a chrome tool box with red lights along the rear edge. It also has a CASE 1H (type of tractor) sticker in the rear window, a 5th wheel plate in the rear box and oversized mirrors.

Anyone who may have information about this theft is asked to contact the Owen Sound Police Service or Crimestoppers.

karate-regThe Military Family Resource Centre at CFB Meaford and Fudoshin Classical Karate in Owen Sound, are pleased to announce their-co-creation of the Three Battles Program, intended to serve active and retired Canadian Forces personnel and their families.

The Three Battles Program is centred around the teaching of a traditional Okinawan Karate kata, or form, called Sanchin. Sanchin translated literally means "three battles" and refers to the body, mind and spirit - three paths each of us must move through to become who we were meant to be, and are capable of becoming.

Mike Merritt, co-creator of the program, holds a Masters of Social Work degree and is an associate instructor at Fudoshin Classical Karate in Owen Sound.
